HIGHLIGHTS

After the threat of a growing Zulu Kingdom actioned the British to deliver an ultimatum to the Zulu’s that subsequently expired, the British Imperial forces invaded sovereign Zululand on the 11thof January 1879. The battle at Isandlwana unfolded 11 days later and resulted in an initial victory for the Zulu Nation; on the other side of the coin, it was marked as one of the greatest military disasters in British Colonial history. Almost half of Lord Chelmsford’s Central Column was wiped out by King Cetshwayo’s army, who were armed mainly with assegais. Later that day, the great Zulu army attacked a small garrison at Rorke’s Drift in a gruesome and bloody battle that lasted the whole night. This time, victory was in the hands of the British. On this tour we are transported back in time as we walk the battlefields of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, with the help of your guide who will deliver a vivid account of the Anglo Zulu war.
