The Drakensberg Mountains

The Drakensberg Mountains are one of South Africa's natural wonders, with a large part of this region being declared a World Heritage Site. These mountains are home to the largest collection of rock art in the world and it is also where you will find a variety of unique fauna and flora. In fact, most aspects about the Drakensberg are large: large mountain peaks, many over 3000 meters in height; large antelope, such as the eland, which is also the largest antelope in the world; and large waterfalls – the Thukela Falls is the highest waterfall in Africa, flowing almost 1000 meters down the escarpment.

With loads of activities to choose from this is a wonderful place to explore the great outdoors, and time spent in the mountains will leave you feeling rejuvenated and inspired.

ITINERARY:

Day 1

· Collected at 6am from your guesthouse/hotel

· Travel to the southern Drakensberg

· Arrive in the Underberg just before 9am and transfer into 4x4 jeeps

· Begin the ascent into Lesotho for a day of culture and magnificent scenery

· Lunch in the Highest Pub in Africa

· Descend late afternoon back to the Southern Drakensberg

Overnight: Southern Drakensberg Guesthouse/ Hotel DBB

Day 2

· Morning hike into the Drakensberg Mountains (optional)

· Horse ride, spa treatment or relax by the swimming pool (optional)

Overnight: Southern Drakensberg Guesthouse/ Hotel DBB

Day 3

· After a leisurely breakfast return to your guesthouse/ hotel in Durban via the Midlands Meander, stopping off at Piggly Wiggly, The Mandela Capture Site and Howick Falls on the way
