Explore Tanzania
Mount Kiliminjaro, the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater are just a few of the things that make Tanzania a very popular and highly recommended travel destination.
The numerous national parks lend itself to excellent game viewing in a desirable setting for those wishing to embark on an unforgettable safari. Our trips are designed around the Northern section of the country and depart at Kilimanjaro International Airport. For those with more time on their hands then Zanzibar (just off the coast of the mainland) is a super way to finish off your safari.
Tanzania is most known for the Great Migration where approximately two million wildbeest undergo an 800km trek across the Serengeti in search of greener pastures. This is the largest movement of mammals on earth and an extraordinary sight to witness.
It’s worth noting that the migration is a continuous all year-round movement across the Serengeti and Mara eco systems and the exact timing and location can slightly change depending on the rain patterns.
Great Migration Calendar:
January, February & March – The herd is spread across the Ndutu area (after the short rains. This is the dramatic calving season where thousands of babies are dropped regularly).
April & May – The herds move Northwards towards Central Serengeti including areas like Seronera region and Moru Kopjes where the long rains begin.
May & June - Once the long rains end, the herds begin gathering in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, preparing to cross the Grumeti River, where they face crocodile-infested waters and high predator activity.
By July, the wildebeest move further north, and the legendary Mara River crossings begin—arguably the most iconic event of the migration hence why some people say that June to early August is the best time to see the famous ‘river crossings’. (July – October the migration is in Northern Tanzania & Kenya’s Masai Mara)
October - the wildebeest are spread across Northern Serengeti heading downward.
November & December – The migration turns South, back towards the Serengeti often following the Loliondo area.

The currency in Tanzania is the Tanzania Shilling, however the US Dollar is widely accepted. We recommend traveling with credit cards/ debit cards that can be used at safari lodges and to withdraw cash at airport ATM’S. Not all banks charge foreign transaction fees but please check with your credit card issuer. Please also advise your bank prior to departure that you will be using your credit cards in Tanzania. It is advised to bring a fair amount of US dollars, provided the lodges you are visiting have safes in the rooms. This can be used for gratuities and other purchases.
